Fondly On My Mind
Verse 1
In a shoebox full of letters I came upon a poem
You sent me and it moved me to see if you were home
Though penned when we were half our age, your words rang true and cried
Of nature’s wonder, human blunder, beauty versus pride
Verse 2
You wrote of whales and eagles, of northern straits unnamed
You sang of verdant splendor, of wilderness untamed
Of ships that breached the silence, of wakes that breached the shore
Of whales that breached the waters, of eagles as they soared
Chorus
Was there a chance that you remembered me, across that gulf of time?
I was just a little nervous, you’re so fondly on my mind.
Verse 3
I remember my amazement, you answered when I called
Your voice was so familiar, like it’s been no time at all
And your memories of those few short days we spent so long ago
Were as fresh as mine, it was clear to me we’d touched each other’s soul
Chorus
I was pleased that you remembered me, across that gulf of time
And I’m just a little nervous, you’re so fondly on my mind.
Verse 4
You live for snow and winter, and I live for the sun
But we both find joy in music, that’s where our hearts are one
Now I work at the factory, and you live by the pen
As I write these words I wonder, will I see your face again?
Chorus
I was pleased that you remembered me, across that gulf of time
And I’m just a little nervous, you’re so fondly on my mind.
