Will has always been politically active, supporting many political candidates and causes financially, through petitions and letters to the editor. He has also written a number of politically oriented songs. In 2008, he took the next big step and ran for the United States Congress in the Democratic Primary. Although he didn’t win, he garnered the endorsement of both the Oregonian, which has the greatest circulation of any daily newspaper in the Northwest, and Willamette Week, Portland’s leading progressive newspaper. He received nearly 20,000 votes—not bad for an unknown running against an established incumbent!
Currently, Will has turned his attention back to songwriting rather than running for office.
